A rough preview — Google truncates by pixel width, so real results vary slightly. Keep titles under ~60 characters and descriptions under ~155 to stay safe.

How to write a title tag and meta description that get clicks

  • Lead with the keyword. Put the phrase people actually search near the front of the title — it’s bolded in results and confirms they’re in the right place.
  • Mind the length. Google trims titles past roughly 60 characters and descriptions past about 155. Stay inside those and nothing gets cut to an awkward “…”.
  • Write for a human, not a robot. The description doesn’t directly rank you, but a clear, inviting line earns the click — and clicks matter.
  • Make every page unique. Duplicate titles and descriptions across pages confuse search engines and waste the opportunity to target different terms.
  • Add one clear next step. “Book online”, “See pricing”, “Get a quote” — tell the reader what happens when they click.
  • Be honest. Don’t promise what the page doesn’t deliver. Misleading snippets get higher bounces, and that’s a signal you don’t want to send.
